The director's office
The imposing wall canvases by Dirk Dalens III set the tone in this room, which is also known as the ‘Cleves Room’, for reasons that are not entirely clear. The canvases, signed D. Dalens, 1725, depict stories from Ovid’s Metamorphoses. The tale of Niobe can be seen on either side of the mantelpiece. The door is flanked by two smaller representations: to the left, Mercury and Battus and to the right, Narcissus. The paintings are beautifully framed by stucco and wood carvings dating from 1724.
