Amsterdam clock
At the back of the hall is a clock dating from 1765. The movement and chimes were made by Dames Starre, who worked in Hoorn and Amsterdam. The clock not only indicates the hours and minutes, but also the date, the day of the week, the month, the position of the moon and the hour of high tide for the IJ in Amsterdam. It plays a different melody every day of the week. The painting on the face of the clock shows people playing music and is signed ‘D. Coenraadt fecit 1765’.
The clock, including the chimes, was restored by Melgert Spaander in 2002. Beside the clock and on the staircase are pictures of the directors of the Office, from 1841 to 1991.
