Portrait of Hendrik van Slingelandt

Hendrik van Slingelandt by A. van den BurgAbove the desk that Mussert ordered for his office is a portrait of Hendrik van Slingelandt, who owned the house in the eighteenth century. The portrait was painted by A. van der Burg in 1730. Its companion piece, a portrait of Van Slingelandt’s wife Maria Catharina van den Burch, was stolen from a French private collection in the 1990s. Its whereabouts are still unknown.
